Forty two firefighters are led
by a Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, three Battalion Chiefs, and
thirteen Lieutenants. The Fire department also employs a full-time
secretary. The minimum staffing each day is thirteen personnel. The
strategically placed stations and staffing allow firefighters to control
most fires in their infancy before major damage can occur. The majority
of the staff are also State of Ohio certified paramedics delivering
Advanced Life Support level of care to the ill and injured.
Department equipment
includes four pumpers, one aerial truck, four ambulances, a light rescue
truck, a hazardous materials unit and other auxiliary equipment including
one boat used for water rescues on residential ponds. The Solon Fire
Department utilizes the latest equipment such as the Thermal Imaging
Camera. This camera permits a firefighter to locate victims in the smoke
charged atmosphere of a fire. The camera also allows the user to quickly
locate the area of the fire that may be hidden in walls which leads to
early extinguishment and deters spread of the fire.
In 2007,
Solon Fire Rescue answered 833 fire calls and 1844 rescue calls.
